Re-starting the Sunday Thoughts Category of Posts - A lot of timepass thoughts in my mind. Unusual moves in stocks. Miscellanous topics and anything under the sun. It will be either terribly boring or a little timepass. Have quite a few articles with this category before.
Sunday Thoughts - Back from Delhi
The last time i was in Delhi i missed the flight and the next one got delayed. If only mine was.
This time i was in Delhi this weekend for The Investing Lab and it was anyways pretty hot so could not go around much and reached the airport early. The flight was delayed 2.5-3 hours.
For a moment i thought - Delhi is a jinxed place for me / I am jinxed with Delhi / Murphy's Law etc.
Similar thoughts that come to trading/investing.
If i hold a stock for long term it never moves up. If it does then it falls 50% before i can think.
If i take a day trade i always lose money.
When i decide to do trend following trades the market goes sideways and whips me off.
When i take that option trade on the event ... Raghuram decides something else. ( A lot of analysts polled for 50 bps rate cut )
These lines can continue. ( Pour it in the comments. )
So will you let the outcomes decide the process ??
Outcomes can be brilliant and the Process extremely bad and vice versa. ( Puneet's favorite line )
What i realized all the outcomes are not in our hand but the process is !!
You can always decide to not go through a process ( value investing, trend following, asset allocation or simple things like being on time, courteous etc ) and hope the outcome is brilliant and prepare for if not. All i have understood is process is what we can follow !!
I do not travel much but i have a process of reaching the airport before time ( cut the traffic risk ) , web check in or self check in , carry a charged laptop with a few movies/tv shows or books, charged phone or a power bank and a net connection to pass time or work if the flight gets delayed. I sat and enjoyed the 3 episodes of a TV show which was pending for long.
Whenever i try to compare the above process to my investing/trading process it always helps me re-think and be calm about trading/investing. Think you can also give it a try.
